Code of Conduct for Basildon Hockey Club

The content of this Code of Conduct applies to all involved in the activities of our Club.

The expected minimum standards of behaviour and conduct is summarised below.

All individuals involved in our Club will:

  1. Promote appropriate relationships based on mutual trust and respect.
  2. Conduct oneself in a manner that takes reasonable measures to protect themselves and others. This includes considering the wellbeing and safety of participants before the development of performance, and ensuring all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part.
  3. Promote and respect the spirit of fair play. This is more than playing within the rules and encorporates the concept of friendship, respect for others and always participating with the right spirit.
  4. Promote the reputation of the game and take all possible steps to prevent it from being brought into disrepute.
  5. Display consistently high standards of behaviour including:
    • Never use inappropriate language or gestures.
    • Protect yourself and others from verbal or physical abuse, threatening or intimidating behaviour.
    • Abide by EH anti-doping rules.
    • Accept and observe the authority and decisions of match officials and all other disciplinary bodies.
    • Co-operate with the coach/team captain, team-mates and opponents.
    • Thank officials and opponents at the end of the match without fail.
  6. We shall not actively promote anti-social behaviour, lude acts or excessive drinking, or force any Basildon Hockey Club member into taking part in such activities.
  7. We shall not do anything which is likely to intimidate, offend, insult, humiliate or discriminate against any person on the grounds of any protected characteristic, LGBTQ+ or BAME background.

Basildon Hockey Club follows all guidelines laid down by the national governing body of Hockey, England Hockey.

Any breaches of our Club Code of Conduct or England Hockey guidelines will be addressed by the Club committee whom may impose penalties as deemed appropriate.
